How the countdown works
The target you pick is interpreted in your device's local time zone, and every second the tool takes the difference between it and your device's clock. That difference is split into whole days, then hours, minutes and seconds — so the numbers always add back up to the exact remaining time, with no rounding drift. If the target has already passed, the same arithmetic runs in reverse and shows how long ago it was. Share the link and anyone who opens it sees a live countdown to the same local wall-clock time.

Does the countdown send anything to a server?
No. It runs locally in your browser off your device's clock — nothing is uploaded, logged or stored. Only the target date and time appear in the page URL, which is what makes the countdown shareable.
How accurate is it?
As accurate as your device's clock, which modern phones and computers sync over the network to within a fraction of a second. The display updates once per second. If the numbers look wrong, check your device's date, time and time zone settings.
What happens when the date passes?
The countdown flips to counting up: the same days-hours-minutes-seconds display shows how long has elapsed since the target. Nothing stops or resets, so a link to a past event keeps working as an 'it's been X days' counter.
